The Bachelorette Week 4 Recap
Who remembers when I actually used to be on time with these recaps and put them out that night or early the next day after the show? Yeah, I don’t know her anymore. So shall I say better late than never again? This week I didn’t even watch the show live because I literally couldn’t turn off the election coverage. But now it’s over, we can celebrate that we can the big bad man out of Office but that doesn’t mean our work is over. However, that’s for another post. Let’s get into The Bachelorette Week 4 Recap because man, wasn’t it a ride of an episode. I wasn’t successful in staying spoiler-free before watching the episode but it happens.
The Guys Are Angry
So, the show starts with most of the guys hanging out together and talking about their frustrations with Clare and Dale. Right off the bat, we don’t trust Kenny in the tank top (because, ya know, tank top) and his tattoos don’t sit right with me. Now, don’t get me wrong, the guys have the right to be angry. However, they’re being overdramatic and it’s annoying. They didn’t “give up everything and so much” to be here. It’s a pandemic. They’d be sitting at home on their couches right now anyway so even if they didn’t find love with Clare, they got a free and safe vacation during COVID-19 and I wouldn’t be complaining.
Meanwhile with Clare…
They cut to Clare journaling and saying that she is so in love with Dale. That it’s rare to have this kind of connection this fast and in such a short amount of time. It’s cheesy, yes. But I think it’s endearing because I’m a sucker for a fairytale-esque romance.
Clare’s daydream is quickly interrupted by Chris Harrison showing up and telling Clare they need to talk. He tells her that the guys are unhappy and confused and says the path their on right now, they can’t continue. She tells him that she’s head over heels for Dale and that the universe is working in her favor now. Finally, she admits she essentially stalked (some of you know what that’s like 😉) Dale’s profile during the halt in production and there was something about his page that she was drawn to. She related and sympathized with his family tragedies that she mourned his mother for him. Chris asks the million-dollar question of if she and Dale talked at all beforehand, and it’s a solid no from her.
She gets really emotional about her father and Dale, and how she’s waited so long for this. Controversy aside, I couldn’t be happier for her and I truly hope that Dale is her person. Chris says the words we’ve been waiting to hear this entire time, “congratulations, you’ve just blown up the Bachelorette” when Clare says that this is over in her mind.
Back with the Angry Boys™
The men are still annoyed with Clare. Kenny said he’s going to ask for some Clarity from Clare and no one even laughed. Sad. They’re all really banking on getting answers from Clare at the cocktail party later only for Chris Harrison to come in and burst their bubble. He let them know Clare has canceled the cocktail party and no rose ceremony and he’ll see them all tomorrow. And finally, he asks to see Dale outside. Cue the men freaking out. I take everything good I said about Blake M. because he’s being embarrassing throwing a temper tantrum.
Outside, Chris tells Dale the reason she canceled those things is that she wants to spend time with him.
Dinner with Chip and Dale…I mean Clare and Dale
First of all, Clare looks insanely hot in her dress. She’s not a snack, she’s a four-course MEAL. Once they sit down, I feel like Dale feels incredibly awkward. Clare tells him she couldn’t give anyone a group date rose because essentially they weren’t him. She starts talking about her father and how she’s been waiting and searching for a man that has the qualities like her father and she thinks she finally found that – in Dale. Then she tells him that her parents met one time, three weeks later her father proposed to her mother and married three months later. Hint, hint, Dale. He talks fondly about his parents and the tragedy of losing his mother. It’s all very sweet and emotional.
He talks about how she had a beautiful aura when she was announced on GMA and he hasn’t felt these emotions in years. In her ITM, she said she’s afraid to confess her feelings for Dale. By the way, I’m writing this as I’m watching for the first time in so long, and I’m eating this up. It’s so insane but so sweet at the same time, I don’t know.
Can y’all believe this is actually happening though?
When she goes to bed and wakes up, she thinks about him and she can’t put into words how he makes her feel. She finally tells him that he’s falling in love with her. And he just looks at her and then says when he met her, he felt love. And he’s falling in love with her and he’s been dying to tell her. Then they smooch. Love is crazy, y’all. I love how in her ITM, she basically told everyone who told her her standards are too high to shove it. Amen, girlfriend.
Then they dance to Chris & Bri performing from Listen To Your Heart which feels like a million years ago at this point. In Dale’s ITM, he said he’s not shying away from love and it’s what she deserves. My heart. In her ITM, she said she doesn’t have a doubt in her mind that Dale is her person. Then it appears it’s fantasy suite time. Good for them.
They chat in bed. He leaves to head back to the guys (big yikes for him). In his ITM, Dale thinks there’s still so much time in the process. Oh, Dale.
But Wait, It Gets Wilder
Again, I get the men’s frustrations but oh my god, they’re irritating. Chris then shows back up at Clare’s for details of her night with Dale. And then Chris pushes for a proposal. That night. Seems weird but not shocking considering the show. I feel like instead of pushing a proposal, we could just let them leave the show dating. But I guess not.
Time to finally break the news to the Angry Boys™. Kenny and Blake need to shut up and/or leave. Like relax fellas, she’s not your girlfriend and maybe this is why she didn’t vibe with them. Clare walks in to tell them the news. Who else can say they broke up with like 16 men at one time? Iconic. She tells them she found what she was looking for in Dale. No reaction except death stares from around the room, but she continues being respectful to them and that’s important. I personally don’t think she should feel bad for what she’s doing. Some men respectfully express their sadness and others (cough Blake and Kenny cough) are being cry-babies. Kenny sucks and so does his deep V t-shirt.
She says she’ll apologize for wasting their time or hurting them but won’t apologize for love. More men being respectful and that’s what we love to see. Pack it up Kenny and Blake, you’re just mad your TV time is almost over. She hugs some of them. Jason gets emotional in his ITM. Finally, Clare leaves.
No Pressure, Dale
Chris Harrison facetimes our boy Neil Lane requesting a ring for tonight. So like Dale doesn’t even get to pick it up. In Dale’s ITM, he says he thinks he and Clare are on the same page in exploring where things go – oh dear. Chris comes knocking on the door to tell him Clare is waiting for a proposal. No pressure, Dale.
Cut to Clare freaking out with a producer because she doesn’t know how Dale feels about this proposal. In her ITM, she says she’s begged guys to love her and wants to spend her life with Dale. Chris then comes to talk to Clare and she starts sharing her fears. She’s used to men just leaving when it comes to this step and this is bringing up old fears and it’s scary. Chris tells her to trust herself. OR WE CAN JUST LET THEM LEAVE DATING. But no.
Clare is looking ethereal, again. You can say a lot of things about Clare, but she’s hot. She continues in her ITM saying she’s never had a man want to stick around and that Dale is the man of her dreams, she’s never felt like this and it’s different. Many grand statements are being said. Maybe it’s just me being apprehensive for her, but I am nervous for her and Dale.
Dale comes out here looking handsome as ever. So dashing. Clare gives an emotional speech and then it’s Dale’s turn. His speech is sweet as can be and has me all heart eyes. I’m quite frankly just too lazy to replay the whole speech for you, so you can watch it here. He drops down to one knee, pops the question, and she says yes. But she also said she’s waited a lot of years for this as if she didn’t get engaged to Benoit on Winter Games but whatever. Minor detail, I suppose.
Congratulations to Clare and Dale!
Final Rose: Dale
Your Move, Guys…
Back with the Angry Boys™, they’re still so mad. But really it’s just Blake and Kenny being whining assholes. Pack it up, buckaroos. Chris breaks the news to them that Dale proposed to Clare and she said yes. Blake seems like he’s about to have a meltdown. Which is weird if he’s this torn up about Clare loving Dale because he’s acting like he has Dale-like feelings for Clare. But whatever. The double standard and all.
Chris then tells them to make a choice to either leave or move on. If they can’t get past Clare, they can leave. And if they can, they can stay. They have by tonight to decide. There’s a difference between Blake and Kenny being jerks about their feelings and Jason who seems actually genuine.
Bennett on the other hand is having no problem with moving on. Then we’re back to Blake being annoying. Jason is still having trouble. What will they do? Either way, I hope they chill out soon and become less annoying. And of course, no one wants to miss out on their TV time, they all arrive that night.
Our New Bachelorette…TAYSHIA ADAMS!
Chris Harrison tells them their new Bachelorette is on her way and hypes her up – as he should. Tayshia gets out of that limo looking so damn good. Most of these men don’t deserve this queen. Personally, I want specifically Kenny far, far away from her. Also Blake. They’re both just so unbearable this episode. And we’re let on a cliffhanger as she walks into the room.
Let’s talk about Tayshia as the Bachelorette for a second. I am thrilled about this woman. She’s incredibly hilarious, intelligent, kind, and so beautiful. However, I’m worried about her. ABC is AWFUL at vetting their contestants. Does it not worry anyone else that they just threw a Black woman into a group of men who have been expecting to date a white woman this entire time? In an ideal world, we wouldn’t worry about this. But it’s not an ideal world and it’s something I feel concerned about. It feels irresponsible on the show’s part. Do they protect Rachel Lindsay? Absolutely not. So what makes anyone think they’ll protect Tayshia? I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst. They really should have told the men before that night AND brought in new men for her.
Cheers to Tayshia! I hope it works out for her and nothing terribly awful happens and that she’s safe.
The Bachelorette Week 4 Conclusion
At the end of the episode, we get cute Dale and Clare footage. We get a sneak peek of Tayshia being viewed as a second choice, and a preview of Dale and Clare doing a tell-all next week (or tomorrow because I’m writing this on Monday lol).
Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter because I live-tweet the show every Tuesday and I think I’m hilarious.
