The Bachelor Week 1
And we are back, baby! The three-hour premiere of season 24 of The Bachelor with Peter Weber aired last night and I have a purpose again. But can we talk about how much of a giant Peter looks compared to the women in the above group photo? Wild. Anyway, The Bachelor Week 1 literally flew by last night (no pun intended). I mean last season we complained about all the unnecessary live watch parties and barely squeezed in the first rose ceremony. But in this episode, we have the intros, the first rose ceremony, the first group date, the first one-on-one date, and the start of the second group date. Absolute insanity. But I loved every minute of it.
Let’s talk about the flash-forward the episode began with about Chris Harrison telling Peter, “There’s something I just found out. All of us just found out.”. We love causing viewers to stress 45 seconds into the episode that we won’t get answers to until around March.
Now I may be being biased because of how much love for Hannah Brown I have, but I literally cannot see Peter finding that kinda love he had with Alabama Hannah with these women. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really impressed with any of them last night. In fact, I thought it was rather childish and obnoxious the way they kept talking about Hannah and how much dislike of her that they carried with them. If it wasn’t for Hannah, none of us would know Peter. But what can I say? These women seem to love drama already.
Let’s Meet the Women of The Bachelor Week 1
The 30 women that started off tonight hoping to be Mrs. Peter Weber. Note that the unflattering blue and gray backgrounds are no more and they are being done right with white backgrounds. Although, they did do Natasha dirty by having her be the only one with a close-up like that. I’ll be honest, I have a crush on all of them. I mean how can you not? They’re all absolutely stunning.
But it does appear that Victoria F (aka the crier of night one) is being held accountable because she’s racist. So, we will not be rooting for her this season, friends. It’s 2020, we don’t have time for that nonsense. Kelley has a similar past with Peter that Nick Viall and Kaitlyn Bristowe shared. We know how that ended for them, so we will see how Kelley and Peter end up.
Notable Stats of the Night
Mentions of windmills and/or aviation reference: At least 17
First Limo Exit: Alayah – her grandmother wrote a letter to Peter. But also, when grandma wrote the letter, they most definitely did not know who was going to be the Bachelor yet because the letter greeting read, “Dear Bachelor”.
- Victoria P. asks Peter to do a happy dance with her.
- Courtney arrives in a little airplane directed by two guys.
- Kiarra literally arrived IN a suitcase.
- Madison wears a giant paper airplane.
- Jenna bringing her emotional support cow, Ashley P. Although some women thought the cow was a pony…so there’s that.
Worst Arrivals: There were A LOT of bad ones this time around…
- Referencing Hannah B.
- Sydney coming in hot saying, “not every girl from ‘Bama makes bad decisions.”
- Hannah Ann hoping Peter has room in his heart for another Hannah.
- Windmill references
- Deandra dressed as a windmill.
- Payton exiting the limo only yelling “four times?!”.
- Jasmine talks about the windmill and the four rounds.
- Kylie pulls out a long pack of condoms.
- Victoria F.: “I have a very dry sense of humor, but…that’s about the only thing that is dry…” Y I K E S
- Tammy pretends to be a TSA agent who has to do a private screening. Let’s talk about this one because if roles were reversed this would not be okay for a male contestant to do to the Bachelorette. Completely inappropriate and not okay. But likely a producer move.
- Katrina: “You’re gonna fall in love with my hairless…pussy…cat.”. Why though?
- Savannah blindfolded him and kissed him. Took out the excitement of who was going to be the first kiss of the season.
First Kiss: Savannah in her intro but then Hannah Ann is the first kiss by Peter’s choice.
Is anyone going to mention that Savannah was the one to have the first kiss and that it technically wasn’t Hannah Ann?
First Impression Rose: Hannah Ann
My First Impression Rose: Madison
First Tears: Victoria F.
How are there already so many tears shed on night one…?
Who Left: Kylie, Maurissa, Katrina, Megan, Jade, Eunice, Avonlea, and Jenna
I Would Keep: Maurissa because she has an interesting story that would have been important to bring light to. In her intro package, she talked about growing up in the pageant world and then developing body image issues because of it. Much like Caelynn’s (Colton’s season) story about her sexual assault, it would have been great for Maurissa to get to talk about that to a large audience.
I Would Ditch: Savannah, Hannah Ann, and, Victoria F.
Number of Pageant Girls: 4
Number of Flight Attendants: 3
Bachelor in Paradise auditions: Mykenna and Savannah
The Bachelorette auditions: Hannah Ann
Number of People Who Cried: 9
My Top 5: Kelley, Alexa, Sarah, Madison, and Victoria P.
My Top 5 for Peter: Madison, Sarah, Payton, Kelley, and Mykenna
Villain Predictions: Hannah Ann and Victoria F.
First Group Date: Hannah Ann, Kelley, Deandra, Tammy, Courtney, Shiann, Victoria P., Jasmine, and Victoria F.
First One-on-One: Madison
The Bachelor Week 1 Takes Flight
All 30 women arrived and then one final limo pulled up to the mansion. Hannah Brown stepped out of the limo. Peter literally stopped breathing and his jaw dropped when he saw her. She was there to give the wings back that he gave to her on her season. There is still something between them and you cannot ignore that. I’m here for it. All the women freaked out when they saw her. I mean Mykenna literally screamed like she was in a horror movie. But they were talking so much unneeded smack about her before she had arrived so it’s a bit of karma for them.
After giving him the wings, she left. And the night began. Honestly, not much was shown from the first interactions before the cocktail party. Most of the women seemed really petty and rude towards each other which I wasn’t here for. Hannah Ann stole Peter three times. There was a paper airplane interrupting the situation between Mykenna and maybe Natasha. I don’t know, it’s very hard to keep track of whose who the first couple weeks. Then before you know it, the sun had risen and it was time to begin the first rose ceremony. (Refer above in notable stats for who left and first impression rose).
Spinning out of Control on Group Date #1
The first group date included: Hannah Ann, Kelley, Deandra, Tammy, Courtney, Shiann, Victoria P., Jasmine, and Victoria F.
The date included pilot training. There was lots of math. The women don’t know the answers which is very relatable to me. I would dip out of a date that required me to do math in front of people. Hard pass. But Hannah Ann gets an answer right when they all got it wrong. Peter was sitting next to her and definitely gave her the answer.
After the math was over, they moved onto the gyroscope. Victoria P. is freaking out about it because she has teacup trauma like Annaliese’s (Arie’s season) bumper car terrors. Which means Victoria P.gets a hilarious edit. but goes on the spin thing anyway. She gets motion sickness then runs to the bathroom to puke. Peter comes to comfort her and gives her water. She says that this was the nicest a man has ever treated her and that made me so sad. All he did was check on her and give her water and that was the best she’s ever been treated? Men need to be better.
Here’s what I want: for the women to stop being so mean to each other for no reason and stop calling each other bitches
Then they have a moment of dressing in flight suits and walking together dramatically, but hey they all look really hot. The last objection of the date is to take on an obstacle course. Kelley ends up winning and went flying with Peter. Tammy claims that Kelley cheated on the course and decides to come for her as soon as she returns from the flight. Inevitably creating drama already.
Peter has some one-on-one time with Victoria P.. Mid-conversation he remembers that she said no one has ever brought her flowers. So he runs outside to pick her some and my heart melted.
Kelley and Peter reenact their meeting since they just so happen to be having their group date at the same hotel they met at a couple of months ago.
Group date rose: Kelley
Come Meet My Entire Family on Our First Date
Madison was the first woman of the season to get a one-on-one date. The date card read, “I wanna show you what forever looks like.” Peter takes her to his parent’s house. The Webers are renewing their vows and have Peter as the officiant. His parents talked about this on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast with Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin and it was the sweetest. It’ll make you fall in love even more with the Webers than you already are.
But Madison will for sure be cut out of the family photos though if she doesn’t make it to the end. So I hope she was stuck on the ends of the photos. Madison tells his mom that she sees something with him and never felt that before. The mom says she likes her. Madison caught bouquet which was no coincidence.
At dinner, Madison tells him that didn’t expect to feel this way and it will be hard to share him. He tells her that he sees her heart and will try to protect it (don’t make promises you can’t keep, folks), and live in present with her. He gives her the rose and they dance to Tenille Arts and joined by his entire family.
Let’s Talk About Sex…with my Ex-Girlfriend
The second group date included: Lauren, Sydney, Payton, Natasha, Alexa, Kelsey, Mykenna, Alayah, and Savannah
The women on this date are greeted by Hannah Brown, and they continue being mean about her. They keep saying she’s always around as if the producers didn’t put her up to this on her breaks from DWTS. And yes, I get that it’s awkward for everyone when she tells her story with peter and windmill. However, didn’t more than half of them bring up that damn windmill when first meeting him?
I probably wouldn’t be thrilled if I was one of the women either but like let’s not bad mouth are fellow ladies, okay? I would have more than likely fangirled over Hannah being there anyway. Whatever. The date is ultimately sharing a sex story of theirs in front of a live audience, and Peter says he can’t top the windmill (ba dum tis).
It’s also Hannah’s third birthday that this show has ruined. She’s crying, peter comes to talk to her, and she says she’s not okay. He comforts her and he says this is all weird. Hannah says she’s happy for him but it’s a lot. She said coming to the mansion first night was terrible, and he was kinda hoping she was coming on the show. We learn that she now lives 20 minutes away from him.
Now I love signs and that’s absolutely a sign to be together. Both sad and confused. He asks her what she would say if he asked her to come on the show. She says maybe. He asks if she regrets sending him home in Crete that night and she said yes, every day. Hannah said it would have been him and Jed. He’s momentarily shocked about Jed for a second and same because it should have been him and Tyler. One big very confusing and messy conversation that you can watch here.
Of course, ABC gives us a To Be Continued on The Bachelor Week 1 already. But we got a lot of content already so I’m not too mad about it.
The Bachelor Week 1 Conclusion
Listen, here’s what I would love to see: Peter leaving to be with Hannah Brown and Mike stepping in as The Bachelor. There is so much undeniable chemistry between Hannah and Peter that it is hard to see him with anyone else at this point. Imagine whoever he picks – if he picks anyone – having to watch this all back. Big yikes.
Here’s the sneak peek at next week. We are wasting no time with the drama…and tears.
