My Favorite Childhood TV Shows (1997-2009) | Summer Rewind

Is there a better childhood memory than getting up early on a Saturday morning with your siblings, have some cereal, and watch some cartoons? I will never forget when we first got TIVO in our house, you know when recording, fast-forwarding, rewinding, and pausing was the newest and latest thing. Personally, I didn’t understand it. But my brother did. So, when we were both downstairs in the family room watching Jimmy Neutron in our PJs he said, “hey Kellie, watch this!”. He proceeded to pause the show and turn the TV off. We then we down to play cars in the basement only to come back up and when he turned the TV back on, Jimmy Neutron was still there. And still paused. I think that was probably one of the first times that my mind was blown. And so I bring you, my favorite childhood TV shows (1997-2009).

It’s no secret that I’m a big TV gal. I mean, if you didn’t know, I do weekly recaps of The Bachelorette, The Bachelor, and Bachelor in Paradise. Basically, I love TV. Personally, I lost my teenage mind when TeenNick started playing their 90s shows late at night again. I had my best friends at the time over to watch the premiere of it and it was easily everything to me. Basically, all my favorite childhood TV shows (1997-2009) are everything to me.

Me + TV = <3

I will say that I love TV and movies because of the magic feeling it gives and the endless storylines you can get lost in among the most beautiful cinematic scenes or even the worst cinematic scenes; I’m no snob and love a lot of great shows and what some may consider “trashy”. But what can I say, I appreciate it all. If you think about it, someone had to come up with those ideas and be intelligent and creative enough to execute it so it’s really hard to criticize that when you’ve never even done that.

For this week’s Summer Rewind post, I’m going to take you through some of my favorite childhood TV shows (1997-2009) growing up. I have separated them into years of my childhood, so from 1997 (when I was born) to 2009 because apparently childhood ends at the ripe age of 12-years-old. I may not have watched the shows during those exact years, but it will be fun to see how they changed throughout the years. Grab your scrunchies, chokers, and low-rise jeans as we head back in time via television shows.

We had the Boomerang channel for most of our childhood and it was one of our favorite channels. The old cartoons were so fun and comforting. My favorite thing about that channel was on Christmas Eve they would have The Boomerang Christmas Party and they would play all the Christmas themed episodes. I would watch that all snuggled up in a Christmas blanket with some Hello Kitty slippers until we were ready to go to my Grandma’s.

What a Wonderful Kind of Day…

I would be lying to you if I said I don’t watch any of these shows anymore. Because I do. My favorite thing to do when I’m stressed is to find a place on the Internet where I can watch a couple of episodes of something mentioned above and just zen out. My happy place is my childhood and to calm down I like to go back there in my mind. Again, there just isn’t anything that can match the feelings I get from my favorite childhood TV shows (1997-2009).

Honestly, what I’ve been trying to do more of lately is get back in touch with my younger self. She was more fun, happy, and carefree. Sure, she still had anxieties, but it didn’t consume her and she didn’t care so much about what everyone thought of her. So, I’ll leave you with this:

Go back. Way back. To that little girl walking around barefoot on the sidewalk in the summer sun. Worry less. Be like her.

I feel like I definitely left out a few that I loved, but after much Internet surfing, I would say this list is pretty solid. This may or may not have gone up a little later than anticipated because I keep getting lost in the nostalgia when I write these. Which then leads to me falling down many rabbit holes of YouTube clips and Google searches, but I love it. And, again, that’s the whole point of this series!

Let me know what some of your favorite childhood TV shows (1997-2009) were growing up as a kid. By the looks of this list it may appear like I never played outside, but rest assured I did plenty of that as well. We love a good balance.

  1. okay WOW this gave me ALL THE FREAKIN FEELS!!! “Me + TV = <3" yes THAT'S ME SQUARED, 'cause idk where'd I'd be without TV shows/movies. I feel like they're such an important part of my past. Bear in The Big Blue House, LIKE OMG YES! I used to stay up until 10pm to do the clock stretch on my rug at home for Big Comfy Couch, man were THOSE days such blissful innocence! Kim Possible. And omg I totally forgot about Unfabulous wow were we living in such perfect times and we didn't even know it. I think for me, nothing compares to Hannah Montana, Wizards, and Suite Life, THOSE SHOWS MADE ME WHO I AM TODAY! I was also obsessed with The Secret Life of the American Teenager (MAN did I want her perfect side-swept flawless bangs look). I def was playing all the Suite Life episodes, as well as the iconic Disney Original movies, to "show" my bro LOL. Why was time so perfect back then! Literally had me smiling throughout the entire post. Wish we could all go back, but we're so grown now :'(

    1. Kellie Marie says:

Oh my gosh, yes, the clock stretch haha. The Secret Life of the American Teenager – holy heck I lived and breathed that show, I was so obsessed haha. I wanted to look like Shailene Woodley so bad. I want to go back so bad, too, I mean I think that’s clear since I made this a whole series but you know what I mean🤣 Thanks so much for reading!

  2. Denise H says:

I love that we are around the same age because your posts like these make me SO nostalgic!

I watched all the same shows growing up, and the Jimmy Neutron movie was my second movie to see in the cinema, I really loved that show and I think people forget about it some times! Drake and Josh, Hannah Montana, Zack and Cody and Wizards of Waverly Place played such a big part in my life too 💛

    1. Kellie Marie says:

Well I’m glad these posts made at least one person feel something that I was trying to evoke🤣 I totally agree, and I feel like every generation will say it but I think our generation had the best version of Nickelodeon and Disney Channel!
