My Summer Skincare Routine

The last skincare post (you can read it here) that I made was back in November and most of what I use has changed. I’m all about trying new products every now and then because I get bored of what I use if I’m not completely in love with it.

I made the worst mistake that I have ever made to my skin in all my 20 years of living. Sunscreen was on my face for 24/7 for about 30 days. I didn’t notice until a month in and I was like why is my face breaking out so much? My diet and my anxiety were all possible factors so I was eating more vegetables and trying to remain as calm as I could. But nothing was working. I thought it was my skincare products but I have used these things since high school and I never had this major of an issue before.

I stood at my bathroom sink staring at my stuff as if the answer was just going to jump out at me. But guess what? It did. The moisturizer had a small yellow block saying something about sunscreen. The sunscreen version and the regular version look EXACTLY the same aside from the yellow box. June then became my month of trying to detox my face of sunscreen that was probably living in my pores. Moral of the story: read your products carefully before you just toss it into the cart and get on with your day.

So, here is my current skincare routine for the summer:

Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash (Cruelty-Free, but No Certification Yet)

I used this one in high school, too, but then I took a break because I wanted to try different things. I came back to this because, the company as a whole, is very conscious on what they put in their products to make sure it’s kind to your skin and it doesn’t have a bunch of that nasty stuff that other facial washes can have in them. It’s a great product!

Pixi Skintreats Glow Tonic (Vegan & Cruelty-Free)

This is a product I find to be a bit pricey for the size that you get, but I still love it. I used it every day for a couple months last year and I really saw a glowing difference in my face. But since I bought this year, I haven’t been using it every day for the sake of wanting to make it last so I’m not seeing quite the same results as last time. But like I said, that’s my fault because I’m not using it every day. Regardless, it smells amazing and I love using it.

Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer (Cruelty-Free, but No Certification Yet)

Although it is important to make sure you have on some sunscreen on you when you’re going to be outside – even when it’s cloudy – it’s not the best thing for your face to have it on ALL the time. Regardless, this moisturizer is amazing and it comes in second to the Tarte one that I used to use. It doesn’t leave your face feeling dry or tacky which I hate when a product does that because then I feel like I have to wait around 20 minutes before putting on makeup. And as a person who is prone to being late a lot, waiting 20 minutes for your moisturizer to soak in isn’t going to cut it for me. I put this one on from Simple and it’s quick and easy and gets the job done well.

Tarte Maracuja Oil (Vegan & Cruelty-Free)

I know I talked and raved about this product in my last skincare routine and it’s one of two things that has remained the same. I’ve also been able to make this last because I don’t use it every day because I know I can’t afford to buy this on the regular. But I love it so much and Tarte’s skincare line is impeccable and I wish I could be able to have it all.

ELF Lip ExfoliatorEye Refresh (Vegan & Cruelty-Free)

I’m pretty sure that I talked about Elf’s Eye Refresh in my last skincare post so I won’t talk too much about it, but it is my favorite part of my morning routine because it’s cold and – well- refreshing to wake you up. My other favorite Elf skincare product has been this coconut lip exfoliator because it leaves my lips feeling smooth and fresh. I always follow it up with some chapstick afterward to make the smooth and fresh feeling last all day.

Bath & Body Works All The Beach Lotion (Mostly Cruelty-Free)

Do I use any other brand of lotion that isn’t Bath and Body Works? Rarely. I have two shoe boxes under my sink that is full of their products that I’m making my way through them all. Right now, my favorite is their All The Beach one. It’s perfect for summer from the smell to the packaging. It’s literally so cute and I’m going to be a little upset when it’s gone (as if I don’t have another beachy one).

Dry Brush

I bought this dry brush last year but I never really got that into it. I didn’t believe, and I still don’t, that dry brushing detoxifies your body or gets rid of cellulite. But it is great at exfoliating. I’ve heard that people use it before they get in the shower, but I use it after the shower and once I’ve put on my lotion. I start at my feet and work my way up brushing toward my heart, expect on my stomach where I do a circular motion. I’ve been a lot more consistent with it the past couple months and it’s really making all the difference in my skin; it’s noticeably softer. I definitely recommend trying it out!

And so that concludes my most updated skincare routine! It’s been a while since I made a post like this and this is what I used to do a lot of when I was in high school on a different blog that no longer exists, but I found this really fun to go back to.

What are some of your favorite skincare products? Do you stick to a routine, or how often do you change it?
