It’s that time of year again…Valentine’s Day.
I used to be the girl that pretended that I’m not super into Valentine’s Day or anything to do with it to be ‘relatable’, but, in full honesty, I’m a hopeless romantic and love the thought of the holiday. However, on one hand, I do believe you should show your love for the people in your life every day; but, on the other hand, I’m an ‘extra’ kind of person and I love days where I can shower people with my love and appreciation for them. In my humble opinion, Valentine’s Day is kinda like birthdays – you love someone every day, but you just make them feel extra special for a day.
But this year, I’m focusing on my best friend for Galentine’s Day because ladies celebrating ladies is the wave of 2018, hop on! I’ve never really done anything like this before, but as I was planning this post out I was getting pretty excited about it.
I feel like it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of the holiday surrounding the person you’re romantically involved with, but no one said you can’t get your friends together and have just as good of a time. So, I’ve compiled a few things you and your best gal pals can do together to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Single or not, you can always celebrate Galentine’s Day!
I don’t know about your girlfriends, but my best friend and I absolutely love breakfast foods. Between that and Steak n Shake that’s basically all we ever eat when we’re together. And I am 100% okay with that. Plan your own brunch or make reservations for somewhere. Whatever you do, just make sure you eat some kind of breakfast food because it’s the best kind of food.
Shop, Shop, Shop!
We live in a town where there really isn’t much to do but shop and eat, so that’s what a typical day without set plans together looks like – that and driving around. But there’s nothing quite like a bit of retail therapy mixed with endless laughing to make for a great day with your best friend. Honestly, most of the time I just walk around saying how much I want to buy something that I see and never actually buying it, but hey it’s still a fun day!
Bake Together & a Movie Marathon in PJs
Who doesn’t like to make desserts with their best friends while watching movies IN their PJs!? Plus, you get to stay home this way and that’s always my most favorite thing. Roll up some sleeves, crack a few eggs, and turn on the tv for an egg-cellent day (I’m sorry, I had to).
Try Something New
My best friend is a lot more of an adventurous person than I am, so sometimes it’s good that she balances me out because I honestly prefer to stay home 95% of the time! Take Galentine’s Day and extend it into a long weekend away with some friends of somewhere close by that you’ve been meaning to check out.
We’re about an hour and a half from Chicago but hardly go there honestly. So, a day at a museum or walking around would be so fun for us! There are also a bunch of fun places to try there and cute places to take pictures. I, personally, think it’s fun to be a tourist in your own city.
I’m awful at verbally expressing my love for people without getting embarrassed and red, so I prefer to write and make things for them instead. That way I don’t have to get awkward saying things they should know, and they still get to know that I really appreciate them. My personal favorite things to do are cards, letters, or printing pictures to put in something the other person really wanted.
What’re some ways that you guys celebrate Valentine’s Day/Galentine’s Day?
