My Skincare Routine

One of the most important things that you can do for your body is having a solid skincare routine. I’ve been testing out different products and routines for a couple years now, but I’ve finally found one that works incredibly well for my skin.

Skincare is important for a number of reasons, not only is it your largest organ and helps it do its job better and for a longer time, but also because it helps keep wrinkles away for a longer time, makes you appear healthier with hydrated skin, and you’re less susceptible to diseases.

While you could think you’re doing an okay job at maintaining some sort of skincare routine, look at the ingredients in your face wash – if it contains harsh chemicals, get rid of it. The harsh chemicals remove the moisture from your face AND pollute it, rather than cleaning it.

It’s also important to make sure you moisturize your face within a few minutes of bathing. Moisturizing is crucial because it reduces appearances of acne, reduces the chance of skin problems, it helps you stay looking younger because it gives the skin a boost it needs, fights wrinkles, and so many other reasons. Basically, you should be moisturizing your face each time you cleanse it.

Use. A. Face. Oil. This has become a recent discovery of mine, and I cannot believe I haven’t been using it all along. If you have oilier prone skin I get why you would be skeptical of putting more oil on your face, however putting oil on your face will make your face oilier is a myth. Your face is stripped of oils and other factors when you wash it, and as a response to that, your face responds by producing more oil. Acne and trouble with pores are due to the face lacking in essential oils that the face needs. It also helps in keeping the skin younger looking.

Your routine doesn’t have to be a million steps or super expensive products, you just need to pay attention to what you’re putting on your body; just like you should pay attention to what you put in your body.

I never struggled severely with acne, but I do have my trouble areas every now and again. And it tends to flare up when I’m stressed.

Let’s get into what I use and when I use it! I’ll link all the products at the end of the post.

 Morning Routine Morning Routine

I use only three products on my face in the morning. When I wake up, I wash my face with the charcoal version of the  L’Oreal Pure-Clay Cleanser. I think this is one of their newer products, and it’s really different and cool because it comes out of the tube looking like a face mask, but when you add water to it, it becomes a mousse texture. After I wash my face, I use Drink of h2o Hydrating Boost Moisturizer from Tarte’s vegan skincare line. When I’m done putting that all over my face, I use ELF’s Eye Refresh on my undereye serum rollerball to help my eyes look more awake. It helps alleviate the puffiness and dark circles. It’s infused with ingredients like green tea, cucumber, pomegranate, etc. to help take care of the sensitive skin around the eyes.

 Night Routine Night Routine

Again, I only use three products at night. I use the same charcoal version of the  L’Oreal Pure-Clay Cleanser and Tarte’s Drink of h2o Hydrating Boost Moisturizer. I only swap out the serum for Tarte’s Maracuja Oil from the same line as the moisturizer. I won’t go on another rant about how essential face oils are, but this specific daily one helps restore moisture to the skin lost throughout the day and keep excess oil in check for oilier and acne-prone skin. I apply a drop to my forehead, each cheek, nose, and chin, and I make sure to focus on areas I know are more prone to have excess oil. You could always use the oil in the morning, I just prefer to use it at night so I don’t have to put any makeup on top of it and let it do its thing all night.

Depending if I wear makeup a lot in a week, I use Biore’s Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub. Exfoliating is honestly pretty exciting because you just know you’re getting everything bad that’s ingrained in your face out, which can lead to over exfoliation which isn’t fun and hurts. BUT, with this product having a baking soda base, it dissolves before you get to that point. So, you can have a nice exfoliation time without being red and raw afterward.

Another thing that I find exciting, and probably is my favorite thing about skincare is face masks. Pixi’s Glow Mud Mask clarifies and brightens the skin, draws out impurities, and helps fight acne, but still giving the skin a healthy boost. Cackle Spackle Charcoal Mask has an intense feeling, honestly, it burns for the first few minutes. But it works incredibly well and you can see the results right away. You can see the impurities being drawn out and it tones the face. Lastly, Freeman’s Dead Sea Minerals Anti-stress Mask has a cooling sensation that immediately makes you feel at ease all while clearing out clogged pores and smoothing the skin. The first and last one are my go-to ones, but I use the Cackle Spackle about once a month or every two weeks to have a good detox to my face, but it does burn so I try not to use it too often.
